For several years now, the American Mustache Institute has asked the band Cake – a favorite of AMI Chairman Dr. Aaron Perlut — to play the annual ‘Stache Bash charitable event to no avail.

Now, there is reason for optimism.

This week on The David Letterman Show, Cake lead singer John McCrea performed wearing a high quality mustache hat. Sure, it was not an official AMI product, but still, a mustache hat is enough to drive hope amongst the Mustached American community.
