A good week for lip hair

These past six days, at least in my world, have been good ones for the mustache.

Last Sunday, I was fortunate enough to visit historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to watch the Packers top the Washington Redskins. It was an  experience that any football fan should share at some point. But it was also nice to note the number of mustaches per capita in the greater Green Bay area. I would suggest it may be one of the most heavily mustached regions of the U.S., and there will be more to come from AMI on eliciting feedback from readers on cities that are the most mustached per capita in the world.

Along with Director of Research Dan Callahan, I then traveled to New York to tape a segment for the forthcoming "Fashionably Late with Stacey London" program to begin airing on the TLC Network in November.

Later that day, we joined our good friends from Movember, an Australian group that conducts an annual campaign to grow the "Mo" during the month of November while accepting pledges for Prostate Cancer research. Last year they raised some $7 million in Australia and New Zealand and they are now bringing their campaign to the U.S. The kick-off gala, held at The Grand in New York City, was a good time for all and a recognition of the power of lip fur. Plus, we also got to spend some quality time with Randy Jones, better known as his role as the cowboy in the Village People, and a video interview with Randy should soon appear on the AMI site.

Finally, my heavily mustached week was topped when I had breakfast with the esteemed Justin Fox of Time magazine who afterward wrote a blog on the AMI's mustache efforts. Despite the fact that he's a soccer fan, it's a solid piece of work by Mr. Fox to say the least.

We'll see what comes next, but a fine week for the men of the hairy upper lip kingdom.

About afroman

The name “Abe Froman” is most commonly recognized as the ubiquitous and unseen character who’s identity is briefly assumed by actor Matthew Broderick in the film “Ferris Beuller’s Day Off.” However, Abraham Froman is much more. Dr. Froman, a Capricorn, began his career with AMI as an intern, and after receiving his certification in nuclear mustacheology in 2006, transitioned his role into the organization’s Director of Logistical Intelligence, focusing on research, government relations, intelligence gathering, grass roots advocacy, and song writing. On October 25, 2008, he will ascend to the role of Chief Executive Officer. “I am honored to assume the chair held by Drs. Snor and Perlut previously,” Froman said. “The Mustached American people need leadership, and I pledge that AMI, under my stewardship, will continue to provide it at a time when it is so desperately needed.” Dr. Froman has said that his future goals for AMI are to create satellite campus’s overseas and to develop an annual event, to be known as "The Million Mustache March," each year in St. Louis, concluding under the world’s largest mustache – St. Louis’ Gateway Arch. Froman formerly lived in the Chicago area where he ran a museum dedicated to the "Karate Kid" series of films starring the indefatigable Pat Morita. As Abe likes to say, "One can never tire of Pat Morita." Dr. Froman is also a periodic contributor to joesportsfan.com.
